Garry Kasparov, the renowned Russian chess grandmaster and chairman of the Human Rights Foundation, appears to be unfazed by the current downturn in the cryptocurrency market. In an interview with Cointelegraph during Consensus 2022, Kasparov nonchalantly responded with a casual “so what” when asked about his thoughts on the bear market. Despite his belief that the majority of coins are “crap,” Kasparov acknowledged that both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have already made their way into traditional financial markets as a result of recent price fluctuations. He confidently stated:
“The NFT market will bounce back.”
Kasparov remains optimistic about the future of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) as the world becomes increasingly digital. Although the NFT market has experienced a slowdown from its peak, a recent report from DaapRadar revealed that NFT sale volumes reached $3.7 billion in May. While this figure marked a 20% decrease from April, Kasparov believes that the NFT market will regain its momentum as digital transactions continue to dominate.
Kasparov also shed light on his decision to launch an NFT collection in December with the NFT marketplace 1Kind. He explained that aside from wanting to showcase aspects of his life digitally, he was keen on understanding the intricacies of the NFT process. Kasparov revealed:
“One of the highlights of my collection was the scoresheet from the game I played and won against Soviet chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov. It sold for 51 ETH. November 9, 1985, was the day I became the World Chess Champion.”
