Celestia co-founder Ismail Khoffi recently revealed that developers and communities will soon have the ability to effortlessly deploy their own custom blockchains. Khoffi explained that Celestia aims to separate the consensus and application execution layers, allowing decentralized app builders to explore new possibilities. Similar to Amazon Web Services, Celestia functions as a minimalist layer-1 blockchain, providing users with the necessary infrastructure to deploy their own blockchain or layer-2 rollup with just a few clicks. Khoffi emphasized that the goal is to make blockchain deployment as simple as deploying a smart contract. Celestia’s modular design and customizable features enable users to choose their preferred execution environments and settlement layers. Khoffi highlighted the importance of sovereignty for online communities, stating that Celestia allows them to launch their own blockchain without relying on Ethereum’s governance and design choices. This grants them more freedom and flexibility in operating their chains while benefiting from Celestia’s infrastructure and security. The Celestia Testnet was launched in May 2022, and the Mainnet is scheduled to be released in 2023. However, Khoffi acknowledged that there are still optimizations and bug fixes to be completed before the official launch. Despite not having issued a token yet, Celestia has garnered significant attention and anticipation.
