Microsoft has taken another step in its global expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) by forming a strategic partnership with G42, an AI tech holding company based in Abu Dhabi. The collaboration includes a $1.5 billion investment aimed at advancing AI development and making cutting-edge technologies more accessible in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and worldwide. G42 will utilize Microsoft’s AI computing platform, Azure, to run its AI applications and services. The partnership will extend beyond the UAE and provide advanced AI solutions to clients in the global public sector and large enterprises. The investment also aims to support the development of AI skills and talent in the UAE. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of G42, described the investment as a pivotal moment for the company’s growth. Brad Smith, Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President, highlighted the partnership’s focus on areas in need around the world. Smith is also set to join G42’s board of directors. This investment follows Microsoft’s previous billion-dollar investments in countries such as Germany and Spain to boost AI infrastructure. Meanwhile, OpenAI, in which Microsoft has a stake, is also actively pursuing investment deals and collaborations to establish its presence in the AI market.
