Austin Federa, head of strategy at the Solana Foundation, has acknowledged that the project’s goal of creating the world’s fastest, open, permissionless, and decentralized network is still a long way off. Speaking during an interview at Paris Blockchain Week, Federa admitted that the network’s user experience is currently below expectations.
Federa attributed the congestion issues on the Solana network to its own success, as it has attracted an unexpectedly high level of activity. He described this as a “failure of success,” with the demand for Solana block space far exceeding expectations. He highlighted that Solana is currently processing more transactions per second than both Ethereum layer 1s and layer 2s combined.
However, Federa also conceded that the Solana development team should have been better prepared for the surge in demand and implemented the necessary upgrades in a timely manner. He explained that there was a misalignment between the projected demand for Solana and the timing of the required upgrades.
