Google is reportedly promoting a malicious cryptocurrency website that redirects users to a phishing clone, resulting in the loss of their crypto assets. The fake version of Whales Market, an over-the-counter cryptocurrency platform, is being advertised as a sponsored link at the top of Google search results. Cointelegraph has confirmed that Google is indeed promoting the counterfeit website, which tricks users into visiting a different domain upon clicking. The fake website replicates the interface of the authentic Whales Market site and tricks users into connecting their digital wallets. However, malicious scripts are activated, leading to the theft of users’ crypto funds. This incident adds to a string of similar cases where scammers have used Google’s platform to deceive users. Google has previously taken legal action against scammers and is believed to be actively combating such fraudulent activities. The prevalence of wallet-draining services and the loss of millions of dollars in crypto assets highlight the growing problem in the Web3 ecosystem.
