Bitcoin researchers have developed BitVMX, an open-source framework aimed at securely building and executing complex applications and functions on Bitcoin’s base layer. Backed by RootstockLabs, the project aims to create a sidechain-agnostic framework for developing Bitcoin-based programs. Sergio Demian Lerner, chief scientist at RootstockLabs, explained that BitVMX allows funds to be locked in an unspent transaction output with a spend condition that depends on the result of a program’s execution. The framework has the potential to power various applications, including bridges to Bitcoin, aggregator oracles, and zero-knowledge contingent payments. Lerner emphasized that BitVMX is not associated with any token sale and offers a more secure and decentralized solution. The project will be officially unveiled at the Bitcoin++ Austin conference.
