Synthesia, an AI startup supported by Nvidia, has unveiled a new upgrade that allows AI avatars to convey human emotions and movements. The company’s “Expressive Avatars” aim to express emotions based on text instructions for corporate presentations, marketing, and training purposes. While generative AI has been praised for creating realistic moving images, it often falls short when portraying humans, resulting in distorted visuals. Synthesia’s latest version was developed using actual humans reading scripts in a studio, enabling the avatars to capture accurate lip tracking and emotive expressions. The avatars are available in over 130 languages and can even clone users’ voices. Synthesia has a strong client base, with at least half of the Fortune 100 companies listed as clients, including Zoom, Xerox, Microsoft, and Reuters. With backing from Nvidia, Synthesia has achieved a valuation of nearly $1 billion. By focusing on creating human-like avatars for business use, the company has differentiated itself from other chatbot models in the market.
