Zilliqa, the blockchain network, has recently encountered a series of operational problems that have affected its mainnet’s block production. However, as of May 10, the network’s full functionality has been restored, although the cause of the disruptions is still being investigated.
Zilliqa informed the community that the network is now back online after facing “temporary disruptions to block production on mainnet.” With the restoration of network functionality, the infrastructure team is actively monitoring the network’s stability while working towards identifying the root cause of the recent disruptions.
Since May 8, when a slowdown in block generation was first noticed, the Zilliqa technical team has been working diligently for nearly 48 hours to prevent further disruptions. On May 9, around 9:30 am UTC, the team discovered a malfunction that resulted in a null value being returned instead of a node’s RLP due to a possible invalid database lookup.
By approximately 2:30 pm UTC on May 9, the team successfully restored full functionality through a fix and also implemented the Zilliqa version 9.3.4 network upgrade. The upgrade includes several enhancements to EVM compatibility, and the team apologized for any inconvenience caused to users and the Zilliqa community.
However, despite the fix and upgrade rollout, another disruption to block production occurred on May 9 at around 7:05 pm UTC. At this point, the team intensified their debugging processes to better understand the issue and address the root cause of the disruption.
This is not the first time that Zilliqa’s block production has been affected by technical issues. In December 2023, an interruption to block production led to a significant decline in daily Zilliqa blockchain transactions, dropping approximately 50% from around 61,000 to 30,906.
The Zilliqa team is actively investigating the underlying cause of the recent network disruptions and expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and support throughout the resolution process.
