Anthropic, an artificial intelligence (AI) developer, has announced that its AI chatbot Claude is now available in Europe for both individuals and businesses. In a recent blog post, the company revealed that Claude can now be accessed through its web application and iOS app, offering strong comprehension and fluency in multiple European languages such as French, German, Spanish, and Italian. This expansion comes after the successful launch of Claude 3, the company’s most powerful system capable of analyzing images, in the United States earlier this year. Previously, European users could only access the chatbot through a virtual private network (VPN).
Anthropic also introduced the Claude API in Europe, allowing developers to integrate Anthropic’s AI models into their own applications, websites, or services. When asked for further details on the European release, Anthropic declined to comment. However, users on X have been eagerly discussing the emergence of Claude in Europe, with many noting that while ChatGPT excels in reasoning, Claude demonstrates superior writing eloquence.
To put Claude’s writing skills to the test, our European correspondent, Savannah Fortis, compared Claude 3 with ChatGPT in a head-to-head competition. Both chatbots were asked to “write a short poem about Europe.” While both incorporated key elements from various European countries, Claude’s writing quality stood out. It provided a more accurate and coherent short poem, whereas ChatGPT had nice rhymes but lacked a cohesive storyline.
Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former members of rival AI developer OpenAI, has secured significant investments over the past year. Tech giants like Amazon and Google have committed up to $4 billion and $2 billion, respectively, in funding for the company. In April, Anthropic launched a beta version of its “tool use” feature for all Anthropic Message API users, enabling real-time information lookup and integration of third-party features into Claude’s workflow. This allows users to insert code snippets into their accounts, enabling Claude to access external information during conversations.
