Over the weekend, several prominent figures in the industry and celebrities fell victim to hacking, with their X accounts being used to promote various cryptocurrencies such as Luna2 and ORDI. One of the affected individuals is Gigantic-Cassocked-Rebirth (GCR), a well-known pseudonymous cryptocurrency investor who specializes in contrarian trades. GCR confirmed that their X account had been hacked.
On May 26, GCR’s compromised account posted about ORDI and Luna2.0, causing both tokens to experience temporary price increases of 6% and 274% respectively. Many people noted that the hacker could have chosen to promote a lesser-known coin, but instead opted for these two tokens, resulting in limited gains.
Crypto analyst Miles Deutscher commented, “The GCR hacker missed out on a big opportunity.”
ORDI (ORDI) already has a market cap of $856 million, indicating that its potential for growth is limited compared to smaller-cap coins.
However, experts warn that the GCR hack may be just one part of a larger attack on celebrity X accounts.
Bitcoin developer and Ordinals commentator Udi Wertheimer revealed, “GCR has informed us that there is an ongoing operation targeting high-profile Twitter accounts.”
American rapper Rich The Kid, whose real name is Dimitri Leslie Roger, had his X account post a link for his 2.3 million followers to purchase the new token called “RICH.” This token was launched on the Solana memecoin creator tool pump.fun and achieved a market cap of $90,000 within the first two hours of its launch. It is unclear whether Rich The Kid’s X account was hacked, but the post has since been deleted.
Around the same time, American media personality Caitlyn Jenner used her X account to promote a new memecoin called “JENNER.” This token has already amassed a market cap of $4.7 million within approximately four hours of its launch, according to DEX Screener. Many industry experts believe that these posts are the work of a hacker. However, this particular instance appears more convincing as it spans across multiple social media platforms and includes videos of Jenner endorsing the crypto token to assure her 3.3 million X followers of its legitimacy.
The JENNER token was also launched on pump.fun. Interestingly, the crypto wallet shared by Jenner is the same one previously used by adult content creator Kazumi, who was hacked while promoting the coin “ZUMI” on May 20.
