Zone, the pioneering company behind the first regulated blockchain network in Africa for payments, made an exciting announcement on June 5th about the launch of their innovative “ZonePOS” point-of-sale payment gateway solution.
According to a press release from Zone, this new product is a groundbreaking solution for the region. The company’s blockchain-powered payment infrastructure enables direct transaction routing to issuers while adhering to regulatory guidelines on interbank payments. This sets it apart as one of the very few, if not the only, decentralized gateways for currency-agnostic payments in the African market.
In a statement, Zone CEO Obi Emetarom expressed his enthusiasm for the new PoS Payment Gateway Product, emphasizing its role in promoting financial inclusion and shaping the digital future of payments across Africa. He highlighted that this offering represents a significant step towards their vision of a world where individuals and businesses can conduct instant payments globally, using any payment method and currency.
Among the key features of the product are enhanced transaction speeds, with Zone guaranteeing same-day settlements with ZonePOS. Additionally, the service offers blockchain-based charge-back protection to safeguard against fraudulent activities.
According to the press release, Zone’s PoS payment gateway tackles chargebacks and chargeback fraud on PoS terminals through automated processes that refund customers for unsuccessful transactions and decline fraudulent chargebacks in real-time.
The launch of this new product comes at a time of shifting regulatory dynamics in Nigeria, one of the key markets where ZonePOS is being introduced. Recent reports have highlighted the confusion among younger citizens regarding the government’s resistance towards the cryptocurrency and blockchain sectors.
Although Nigerian President Tinubu had promised to support and legalize cryptocurrency technology during his presidential campaign, the government’s actions since his election in February 2023 have raised concerns among supporters about its stance on the industry.
