Apple is gearing up to unveil its response to the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution that has been taking the technology industry by storm: Apple Intelligence.
As per a report from Bloomberg, the tech giant based in Cupertino will make an announcement during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) happening from June 10-14 to introduce its new line of AI-powered products and services called “Apple Intelligence.”
According to the report, Apple is planning to introduce a combination of onboard and cloud AI services across its range of products. For devices like the iPhone and iPad, there will be dedicated onboard chips to handle AI tasks, while for more complex operations, cloud services will come into play.
This strategy is aimed at safeguarding consumer privacy for functions like predictive text, typing suggestions, and basic queries. However, for more advanced AI features, Apple is expected to collaborate with OpenAI for ChatGPT, which is interesting given OpenAI’s existing partnership with Microsoft for cloud services.
Another highlight is the enhancement of Siri with new capabilities. While Siri was once at the forefront of virtual assistants, it has started to show its age compared to competitors like Samsung, who have already embraced modern AI technology.
The revamped Siri is said to be capable of executing personalized tasks like deleting specific emails or editing photos based on detailed instructions.
Even though it remains to be seen how consumers will react to Apple’s delayed entry into the AI arena, initial responses to “Apple Intelligence” have been predominantly negative.
Pundits, consumers, and analysts have been eagerly anticipating Apple’s debut in the generative AI realm following OpenAI’s significant release of ChatGPT. Speculations have been rife about Apple falling behind in the AI race compared to rivals like Microsoft and Google who have been aggressively pursuing AI advancements.
Up until now, Apple has maintained a relatively low profile in the AI domain. Hopefully, the introduction of AI-generated Apple emojis, an upgraded Siri, and the integration of “Apple Intelligence” into its products will be sufficient to keep Apple at the forefront of market value rankings for the remainder of 2024.
