Uniswap Labs is in the running to win the crypto industry’s very first Emmy Award for their latest acquisition, Crypto: The Game (CTG). This online survival game has become incredibly popular among dedicated gamers and is being considered for an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category.
CTG follows a TV reality show format, with ten “tribes” of 80 players each competing against one another in daily “immunity challenges,” such as arcade games and digital scavenger hunts.
Players of CTG must pay 0.1 Ether (ETH) to participate, with the last survivor taking home the entry money pot, minus a 10% fee to keep the game running. Losing tribes must vote out members, while players can earn personal immunity by tweeting about their gameplay. On the final day, eliminated players vote for one of the two remaining survivors.
Each season of CTG lasts ten days and is played out in real-time on the Base blockchain. Fans can follow the game on X or Farcaster and even listen to a podcast dedicated to CTG.
The game, introduced in January, is getting ready to launch its third season. Season 1 offered a prize of approximately $150,000, while Season 2 saw the winner take home $274,000 as the value of ETH increased. Season 2 participants quickly bought the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for entry in just 15 minutes. Players have the option to sell their NFTs, with the buyer inheriting their position in the game.
Lead developer Dylan Abruscato shared with Fortune that CTG players consist of crypto X community members, influencers, market players, and 10%-15% “normies” who are new to the crypto world.
Uniswap Labs made a big move on June 11, acquiring CTG just before the Emmy nomination ballot was revealed. Uniswap Labs, best known for its Ethereum-based decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, brought on Abruscato and the development team to oversee Season 3 and develop other interactive experiences for the crypto community.
CTG is up against virtual reality experiences, Verizon’s Catch My iPhone game, the Billboard Music Awards, and projects from notable figures like horror film director Eli Roth, composer Jean-Michel Jarre, actress Lucy Liu, and Claymation characters Wallace & Gromit for a shot at the Emmy competition. Voting by a “peer group” will continue through June 25.
Additionally, on June 12, Solana expanded into a new market with the launch of its customer loyalty marketing service Bond.
