David Hirsch, the head of crypto assets at the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) enforcement division in the United States, has officially declared his resignation from the organization.
Hirsch, who initially joined the SEC as a staff lawyer, made the announcement on LinkedIn on June 17 that he would be stepping down from his role at the financial regulator after nearly nine years of service.
Reflecting on his time at the SEC, Hirsch expressed great pride in the achievements of the agency’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. He attributed his success to the collaborative efforts of his colleagues and the support of mentors, leaders, and partners from various regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
Acknowledging the many mentors, leaders, colleagues, and friends who had supported him, Hirsch expressed gratitude to the incredible partners from state, federal, and international regulators and law enforcement agencies.
The former SEC official emphasized that securities enforcement is a collective effort and commended his colleagues for working together toward a common goal. While acknowledging the challenges of leaving an agency that had provided him with so much, Hirsch expressed excitement for the new challenges that lay ahead. However, he mentioned taking a break before revealing his next endeavor.
Hirsch had been an enforcement attorney at the SEC since 2015 and assumed the role of chief of the agency’s crypto asset and cyber units division in October 2022. After nearly nine years of service, he announced his departure.
