Martin Shkreli, famously known as “Pharma Bro,” has made claims that he played a role in the development of the DJT token, which is based on Solana. This digital token has been the center of much speculation following rumors that it was linked to Donald Trump’s son.
During an X Spaces event on June 18, Shkreli disclosed that he was assisting a friend in launching the token back in April. He mentioned that approximately 10 individuals were directly involved in creating it, with an additional 40 to 50 people being aware of its existence. There were reports from listeners that he mentioned Barron Trump, the son of Donald Trump, as one of those involved.
This X Spaces session took place shortly after Arkham Intelligence offered a $150,000 reward to anyone who could identify the creator of the DJT token. This bounty was in response to Shkreli’s acceptance of a $100 million bet with the well-known crypto trader GCR regarding the authenticity of the DJT token.
On June 18, Arkham posted on X, declaring, “Find definitive evidence of the creator of $DJT. We will accept private proof for this bounty, but if accepted, that proof will be made public.” High-profile blockchain investigator ZachXBT submitted information, which may have influenced Shkreli’s decision to host an X Spaces event.
Meanwhile, bets are still being placed online regarding whether the DJT token was launched by Trump or a member of his family. The decentralized betting platform Polymarket indicates that there is nearly $1.9 million in bets placed on the authenticity of the DJT token.
Only 17% of total bets were in favor of the token being genuine, with that number dropping to 7% after Shkreli’s X Spaces event. The speculation that Trump or his son, Barron, are behind the DJT token originated from a post on X by tech blog Pirate Wires. However, Pirate Wires creator Mike Solana clarified that he did not have direct contact with Trump and was simply reporting information obtained from sources.
Currently, the DJT token is trading at 0.012, a significant decrease from its peak of 0.036 as reported by Birdseye. The situation continues to evolve, with new information emerging from Martin Shkreli’s X Spaces event.
