Aptos Labs and NBCUniversal have formed a long-term partnership to offer Web3 fan experiences, customer loyalty programs, and gaming to the entertainment company. Aptos, which has previously developed fan experiences for Universal films, will build upon NBCUniversal’s existing Web3 initiatives.
In March 2023, Aptos created the game “Free Renfield” based on the film “Renfield.” Players could search for bugs that grant superhuman powers and match them to scenes from the movie, with prizes including collectible digital art. In September, Aptos provided behind-the-scenes media, augmented reality filters, digital art, and prize opportunities for ticket purchasers of “The Exorcist: Believer” through Fandango.
NBCUniversal has also embraced Web3 by offering a digital scavenger hunt at Halloween Horror Nights in collaboration with MoonPay blockchain payment system. Greg Reed, Vice President of Technology Partnerships at Universal Pictures, expressed NBCUniversal’s support for Web3.
Owned by Comcast, NBCUniversal also owns DreamWorks film studio and the Peacock streaming service.
Aptos, led by former Meta executives Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, launched a proof-of-stake blockchain in October 2022 using a program language developed for Meta’s failed Diem stablecoin project. This blockchain powers various platforms, including the PancakeSwap decentralized crypto exchange, the Chingari Indian social media platform, and the Overlai intellectual property rights protection service.
In August, Aptos integrated Microsoft’s artificial intelligence tools from the Azure OpenAI service, aiming to attract the financial services sector.
NFT communities are embracing Web3 films, indicating a decentralized future for fans and Hollywood.
