Nigeria’s Federal Government refutes claims of poor prison conditions for Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan, asserts he is receiving quality medical care and full consular services, emphasizing adherence to lawful trial judicial integrity.
The rebuttal was issued on Friday, June 21, by Mohammeddris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation.
Minister Idr’ statement comes following a recent post by two United States Members of Congress Representatives French HillRepublican) and Representative Chrissy Houlahan (Democrat), who visited Gambary at the Kuje Detention facility on June 19th, 2024 and shared a video of the visit calling for his release.
In statement, Idris emphasized that Gambaryan’s detention is based on a court order, and the court can change the terms or direct his release. The minister clarified that despite being lawful custody Gambaryan has access to necessary healthcare services.
Idris highlighted that Gambaryan enjoys full consular support from his home government. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting his basic rights including access to quality healthcare and a fair trial as he faces legal proceedings in Nigeria.
Gambaryan’s wife Yuki has appealed to the Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC) urging them to follow the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) example citing their recent withdrawal of charges as a precedent.

During the June 21 hearing Abdulkadir Abbas Director at Security Exchange Commission resumed testimony in EFCC case against Binance & Gambaryan reiterating that Binance had not obtained necessary registration for operation in Nigeria.
