Studio369 has revealed the upcoming launch of MetalCore’s third Closed Beta (CB3), scheduled to commence on June 27. This phase will introduce various updates, including the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3 technology into the gameplay. Dan Nikolaides, MetalCore’s chief technology officer and former software engineer at Midway and WB Games, spoke with Cointelegraph about the transition from Web2 to Web3. By incorporating NFTs, players will have the ability to own unique in-game items that can be traded, establishing a player-driven economy. Nikolaides discussed the incorporation of “blueprints” necessary for players to advance in the game. The latest beta phase also introduces SHARDS, an offchain currency that allows users to purchase digital collectibles with fiat currencies. Studio369 collaborated with Immutable to implement a middleware layer that integrates Web3 technology, appealing to both traditional gamers and those familiar with blockchain technology. The aim is to gradually grow the game responsibly. Additionally, Ronin recently announced the expansion of its support for the gaming ecosystem through a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain, which aims to enhance user capacity and support game studio partners.
