A new Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) known as EIP-7732 has been introduced by Ethereum developers with the goal of revamping the block validation process and accelerating the blockchain.
This proposal seeks to enhance the security and performance of the blockchain by separating the block validation process into consensus and execution, introducing significant changes.
In response to the increasing demand for efficiency on the Ethereum blockchain, EIP-7732 aligns with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s advocacy for faster transaction confirmation times.
Buterin has been discussing ways to improve Ethereum transaction confirmation times, highlighting the importance of fast transaction confirmation times for a good blockchain user experience.
The technical details of the proposal involve Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (EPBS), which divides block creation into the consensus proposer and the execution proposer.
The consensus proposer selects the execution proposer, who commits to producing a valid block containing essential information for the proposer, such as a payment or block hash. A group of validators, referred to as the Payload Timeliness Committee (PTC), ensures timely submission of the promised block by the execution proposer.
EIP-7732 is significant because it aims to reduce the computational load on validators by separating the consensus and execution layers, ultimately increasing network efficiency and speed.
The proposed solution also suggests a trust-free exchange between builders and proposers to guarantee payment and inclusion of valid blocks, eliminating the need for middleware.
With EIP-7732 under discussion, faster transaction speeds on the Ethereum blockchain could be on the horizon, although it may involve another hard fork with backward-incompatible changes.
The proposal could address the current 12-second Gasper consensus mechanism and pave the way for faster transaction speeds, aligning with Buterin’s vision for a faster Ethereum.
