World, the project founded by Sam Altman, has launched a new Ethereum layer-2 blockchain called World Chain. The blockchain aims to enhance efficiency and introduce new features for users of the Worldcoin (WLD) token. The network will prioritize verified human users with World IDs over bots, granting them access to block space and free gas. World Chain will also incorporate top apps and projects such as Optimism, Uniswap, Zerion, and Alchemy. World initially announced World Chain in April, alongside a rebranding and the introduction of a new version of its biometric device, Orb. The company has also formed partnerships with popular social media apps for identity verification. The new Orb, powered by Nvidia hardware, is expected to be more powerful and efficient than its predecessor. World aims to solve identity issues caused by advancements in AI and promote a universal basic income model through its WLD token. Users can register their unique identity with the World App by scanning their irises. Despite the launch of World Chain, the price of WLD only decreased by 2.1% according to CoinGecko.
