Uniswap, a decentralized exchange (DEX), has announced the launch of a web extension for its native wallet. Users who have claimed a uni.eth username can join the waitlist to access the Uniswap Extension Beta. Similar to other self-custody wallets like MetaMask, the extension will enable users to send, receive, buy, and swap various tokens and altcoins directly from their web browsers.
The uni.eth domain, which is based on the Ethereum Name Service, allows users to convert their 0x addresses into usernames. As of February 25, over 100,000 uni.eth subdomains have already been claimed.
The value of Uniswap’s namesake token has surged over 80% in the past month due to a recent proposal that suggests rewarding users with protocol fee rewards. The proposal, submitted by Erin Koen, Uniswap Foundation’s governance lead, aims to benefit UNI holders who have staked and delegated their tokens.
Koen emphasized that the proposal would maintain the immutability of the Uniswap DEX, enhance security, and preserve its ability to experiment in the future. The developer highlighted the advantage of immutability in eliminating the risk of introducing bugs and protecting user funds from future hacks.
Discussions regarding the proposal are currently ongoing. Uniswap plans to launch its V4 DEX in Q3 2024 following a major Ethereum upgrade. The project has allocated $300,000 for v4 development, with a $150 million token launch KPI.
