Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed a solution to Elon Musk’s issues with Microsoft Windows OS by suggesting he join the desktop Linux community. This comes after Musk expressed frustration about not being able to install Windows OS on his new computer without a Microsoft account.
Linux, like Windows, iOS, and macOS, is an operating system (OS), but it differs in that it is open-source. It was initially released in September 1991 and has gained popularity among a specific user base over the years. The Linux OS powers the widely-used mobile OS, Android.
Open-source software allows programmers to view, modify, and improve its source code. This means that they can add new features or fix any issues with the program.
Buterin’s suggestion to use Linux as an alternative came as no surprise, considering his advocacy for open-source software. While many users on X praised Buterin for promoting this idea, some pointed out that Linux might not be the best option for Musk, especially if his main purpose for using the PC is gaming.
Musk took to X on February 26 to express his frustration about not being able to use his laptop PC with Windows OS without a Microsoft account. He mentioned that there used to be an option to skip signing in or creating a Microsoft account.
Several users on the platform noted that it is still possible to use Windows OS without a Microsoft account, leading to a community note being added to Musk’s tweet. However, Musk responded to the community note, claiming that the option is no longer available. Another note was added to explain that the option still exists but is more complex than in Windows 10 and requires some tricky workarounds.
Users on X also provided detailed comments explaining the workaround process for Musk, but the Tesla CEO believes that the process should not be so complicated.
