The Uniswap Foundation, the entity supporting the decentralized finance protocol Uniswap, has revealed the launch date for Uniswap v4 after the upcoming Dencun upgrade on Ethereum. In a post on X, the foundation shared its roadmap for the rollout, stating that it is currently in the “Code Freeze” phase. During this phase, the team is focused on completing the core code, conducting tests, optimizing gas usage, enhancing security, and finalizing peripheral aspects of the protocol.
Once the Code Freeze phase is complete, the Uniswap Foundation team will engage audit firms and organize a community audit contest to review the code for Uniswap v4. The team is determined to make Uniswap v4 the most thoroughly audited code ever deployed on the Ethereum network. Simultaneously, the decentralized exchange will be deployed to the testnet while the team makes final adjustments.
According to the Uniswap Foundation, the tentative plan is to launch Uniswap v4 on the Ethereum mainnet in the third quarter of 2024. However, this date is subject to change depending on the status of the upcoming Dencun upgrade on Ethereum.
As previously reported by Cointelegraph, the Dencun upgrade for the Ethereum network was activated on the Goerli testnet on January 17. The upgrade introduces various Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including EIP-4844, which enables proto-danksharding to reduce layer2 transaction fees.
The deployment of the Dencun upgrade on the Goerli testnet experienced a four-hour delay. However, the deployment on the Sepolia testnet, the second of the three Ethereum testnets, was completed without any issues on January 31. Subsequently, the Dencun upgrade successfully completed the third phase of testing after being deployed to the Holesky testnet on February 7.
Ethereum developer Tim Beiko announced on February 8 that the upgrade will be implemented on the mainnet at “slot 8626176.” According to blockchain research firm Nethermind, this implementation will take place on March 13, 2024, at 1:55:35 pm UTC. The date was determined by Ethereum developers during a call on February 8, following the successful deployment to the Holesky testnet.
