SingularityNET founder Ben Goertzel believes that an early prototype framework for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could be operational by next year. Speaking at the Beneficial AGI Summit, Goertzel outlined a blueprint for AGI development that aims to ensure it benefits humanity rather than being controlled by corporations or governments. AGI refers to the concept of developing an AI system that can perform any intellectual task that humans can do. Goertzel’s plan includes using open source code, decentralized infrastructure and governance, diverse AGI algorithms, ethically sourced and managed data, and global inclusivity. He stated that the blueprint underpins everything in the SingularityNET ecosystem. Goertzel also mentioned his own OpenCog Hyperon project as a potential breakthrough system. Hyperon, scheduled for an Alpha release in April, is described as a framework for AGI at the human level and beyond. Additionally, Goertzel expressed support for Vitalik Buterin’s defensive acceleration approach to AGI development. He warned of potential risks associated with AGI, such as the development of super AGI for malicious purposes and the concentration of power in one party. Despite the risks, Goertzel believes AGI will bring enormous benefits, including the liberation of humans from repetitive labor and the potential prevention of involuntary death. However, he acknowledged that AGI could still go wrong in various ways.
