Since its emergence, Bitcoin (BTC), Web3, and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) have established themselves as catalysts for activism. The growing crypto sector, with its infrastructure and tools, has had a positive impact on people from various backgrounds, attracting brilliant minds seeking to tackle the world’s most difficult problems.
While most crypto protocols primarily focus on finance and fintech, there are a few projects that prioritize socio-economic, environmental, and human rights issues. One of these projects is Code Green, which aims to leverage blockchain technology for global social and environmental activism.
In the 29th episode of The Agenda podcast, hosts Ray Salmond and Jonathan DeYoung invited Code Green co-founder Inna Modja to discuss how the nonprofit advocacy group combines art and Web3 to advocate for a sustainable future.
Throughout the episode, Modja emphasized the importance of strategic and intentional approaches in Web3 projects, cautioning against initiatives or collection launches that solely focus on extracting profits from existing community members.
When asked about the role of NFTs in Code Green’s philanthropic initiatives, Modja highlighted the power of art in raising awareness and inspiring action. She mentioned their involvement in the popular World of Women NFT project, where Code Green managed the philanthropic aspect and directed donations to various organizations. This effort resulted in approximately $2 million in funding.
Modja also recognized the changing landscape of charitable donations and suggested that collaborating with entities that potential donors are already engaged with can be a more effective fundraising strategy. By leveraging existing relationships, funds can be directed to different groups in need.
