Square Enix, the multimedia entertainment company, has announced plans to revamp its organizational structure and optimize resource allocation to focus on implementing artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Web3, and cloud technologies by 2024. The president of Square Enix, Takashi Kiryu, shared these changes in a blog post titled “A New Year’s Letter from the President.” Kiryu emphasized the company’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies, particularly AI, in its content development and publishing processes. He also hinted at the integration of generative AI technologies, specifically mentioning ChatGPT as an example. While Kiryu briefly mentioned blockchain and Web3 technologies, he did not provide further details regarding the company’s future plans in these areas. Square Enix is widely recognized for its popular Final Fantasy video game series and is one of the industry’s leading developers and publishers, incorporating blockchain and Web 3 technologies into its traditional games. In December 2023, the company launched a nonfungible token-based project called “Symbiogenesis,” which offers an interactive art experience involving collectibles and storytelling.
