Ray Chan, the CEO of entertainment platform 9GAG and a Hong Kong native, recently acquired a nonfungible token (NFT) of Stephen Chow’s “Nobody” at a significant premium. Chan purchased the NFT, titled Nobody 889 “Monkey King,” for 19.527 Ether ($47,300), which is a 3,155% increase from its current floor price of 0.6 Ether ($1,450). This particular NFT is unique because it features a rare Sun trait found in less than 0.01% of the collectible series. In celebration of the transaction, Chan expressed his admiration in a poem, highlighting Stephen Chow’s significance as an actor and the value of memories.
Earlier this month, Cointelegraph reported on Stephen Chow’s launch of the Nobody NFT collections. Chow, known for directing the iconic film Kung Fu Hustle, collaborated with Chinese-American rapper Jin Au-Yeung (MC Jin) to create these NFTs, which have now reached a total trading volume of over 10,516 Ether. The NFTs were initially introduced on the Moonbox platform, developed by a Hong Kong startup with the same name. Additionally, Chow partnered with cryptocurrency exchange OKX to distribute 2,500 out of the 10,000 Nobody NFTs in a highly popular event that attracted over 125,000 applicants.
Apart from their involvement in meme-driven content and internet trends, 9GAG has been actively embracing new Web3 technologies. Ray Chan, who is also the CEO of Memeland, a Web3 venture studio established by 9GAG, is an enthusiastic NFT collector. In a recent interview with Cointelegraph, Chan shared that despite experiencing losses during the NFT market’s bull run, he gained valuable insights that shaped his approach to his own Web3 project. Currently, 9GAG is seeking a blockchain engineer to develop resilient, gas-efficient, and secure Smart Contracts on the Ethereum network.
9GAG CEO purchases Stephen Chow NFT at an impressive 3,155% premium above the base price.
