Big Time Studios has combined engaging gameplay and a crypto-based economy in its Web3 game, Big Time. The game focuses on putting players first by rewarding their participation with in-game collectibles and tokens.
Web3 gaming aims to attract users by offering immersive gameplay and a player-centric in-game economy powered by cryptocurrency. Striking the right balance between gameplay and blockchain elements is crucial to attract players from diverse backgrounds.
If the integration of the crypto economy is not deep enough, it risks not fully utilizing the potential benefits, such as digital asset ownership and the ability to trade crafted items. Game developers must carefully consider the impact of economic activities on the gaming experience and make necessary adjustments to ensure that one aspect does not overshadow the other.
As Web3 gaming evolves and prioritizes better gameplay and interaction, new titles emerge with more advanced features, combining popular gaming genres.
Creating a game for players, Big Time Studios recently concluded the pre-alpha preseason of its flagship title, Big Time. This free-to-play Web3 game combines action and role-playing elements similar to Diablo with vast exploration in World of Warcraft-like worlds. Players can engage in battles, complete objectives, and gather resources in procedurally generated dungeons to craft nonfungible tokens (NFTs). The collectibles are earned directly in-game, highlighting Big Time’s dedication to a player-centric approach.
The invite-only preseason generated excitement and laid the foundation for the game’s progression to closed and open beta phases, incorporating player feedback to enhance the gaming experience.
Big Time’s in-game economy revolves around its native token, BIGTIME, which allows players to earn, refine, craft, and upgrade items. By using BIGTIME tokens, players can speed up crafting times and gain access to Prestige Portals, which offer higher drop rates for in-game collectibles.
Big Time follows a fair token release strategy, where tokens are earned through gameplay, ensuring a level playing field. This strategy promotes balanced gameplay by preventing non-players from gaining in-game advantages through purchases.
So far, Big Time Studios has distributed over 250 million BIGTIME tokens to 21,000 users. The game has attracted over 68,000 players, with an average of 10,000 daily active users. In the GAM3S.GG Awards 2023, Big Time won three awards, including Best Multiplayer Game, Best RPG, and Best Adventure Game.
The game has also gained the attention of 2,600 Twitch streamers, accumulating over 940,000 hours of watched content on the streaming platform. Big Time’s four Mystery Box sales events sold out within hours, generating over $9 million in revenue.
“We are a game company, first and foremost,” said Ari Meilich, CEO of Big Time Studios. He emphasized their priority of delivering an amazing game with immersive gameplay. Meilich also revealed that Big Time will expand in 2024 with the introduction of player vs. player (PvP) combat, along with new content, dungeons, and character abilities. This expansion will mark the game’s first venture into PvP, featuring high-value portals with exceptional loot and challenges. Players will compete in arenas against other parties and creatures to earn maximum rewards.
Users can access the early-access version of the game by joining the Big Time Discord community or reaching out to its Twitch streamers.
