Dan Wang, the co-founder and chief business officer of Aethir, revealed in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph that the company aims to become the AirBnB of spare graphics processing units (GPUs). With the backing of Nvidia, Aethir is working on building a decentralized GPU cloud infrastructure network that caters to artificial intelligence (AI) and gaming applications.
Wang highlighted that the current utilization of GPUs is relatively low, and Aethir aims to address this issue by introducing an intelligent routing feature. This feature will match the computing demand with the appropriate GPU power, resulting in higher GPU utilization. The increased utilization will not only optimize computing power but also reduce costs, enabling more advanced AI use cases.
Aethir is gearing up to launch its Initial Node Offering on March 14, followed by the public node sale on March 20.
Wang also pointed out that the global shortage of GPUs is partially caused by the underutilization of older GPU models. Nvidia, a prominent chipmaker, has faced challenges in meeting the demand for its GPUs, which are highly sought after by gaming customers and cryptocurrency miners. The GPU shortage first manifested in 2017 during the crypto mining frenzy and resurfaced in 2020, persisting until now.
As Aethir aims to revolutionize the GPU market and enhance GPU utilization, its collaboration with Nvidia holds promise for the future of AI and gaming applications.
