Futurverse Studios and Readyverse, the metaverse co-founded by Ernest Cline, the author of Ready Player One, and producer Dan Farah, have released the first official trailer for Open, a third-person battle royale video game.
Open was developed in collaboration with Walker Labs, the creator of the open-world shooter game Walker World, which was released in 2022. This game marks the first major gaming title developed for Cline’s Readyverse. The game’s website states that it will feature various genres, intellectual properties (IPs), and environments.
As previously reported by Cointelegraph in January 2024, Readyverse will not only incorporate assets, environments, and gameplay from the Ready Player One franchise, but it will also utilize IPs from Warner Bros.
The recently released trailer provides evidence of this collaboration. Although the trailer is only 60 seconds long, observant viewers can spot a Nintendo Entertainment System, an Atari 2600, a DMC Delorean resembling the time machine from Back to The Future, and a giant robot that may be connected to the Ready Player One universe, although it does not appear to be the Iron Giant or Gundam from the film. It is also possible that the robot is Jaeger from Warner Bros.’ Pacific Rim film series. Additionally, there is a bronze-colored key and a stuffed frog seen at the beginning and end of the video, respectively, but their significance is not immediately clear.
While no gameplay footage has been shown yet, Open has been announced as a third-person battle royale game. This suggests that it will have similar functionality to other popular shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite.
The Readyverse aims to promote the principles of the open metaverse, which include security, decentralization, and digital ownership. This suggests that players may have the ability to transfer characters and gaming assets between different environments, potentially utilizing nonfungible token-like metamarket activity.
