Arbitrum, the layer-2 blockchain network, is taking steps to strengthen its Web3 gaming development division. On March 12, an announcement on the official forum revealed the launch of the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP), a project that seeks 200 million ARB tokens to support developer onboarding and gaming development.
The GCP aims to establish a sustainable gaming ecosystem on the Arbitrum network. At the time of writing, 200 million ARB tokens are valued at approximately $426 million. As stated in the forum post, a portion of the funds will be used to invest in promising studios and games for development on the platform.
The project also outlined its key productivity indicators and estimates, which include positioning Arbitrum as the leading platform for on-chain gaming. Other objectives include attracting 200 to 300 applications from builders, having over 20% of all Web3 games choose Arbitrum as their base network, launching 25 new Orbits, and encouraging more migrations to Arbitrum compared to other layer-2 networks.
If approved, the proposal sets aside 40 million ARB tokens for infrastructure bounties. These bounties will be awarded on a per-proposal basis to support the development of tools and infrastructure necessary for gaming within Arbitrum.
The timing of the GCP launch and proposal coincides with the unlocking of ARB tokens, which is scheduled for three days later. As reported by Cointelegraph, Arbitrum will unlock 673.5 million tokens (worth around $1.34 billion) for its team and advisors on March 16, in what is referred to as a “cliff unlock” of approximately 1.1 billion tokens.
