Arkansas Representative French Hill, who currently heads the United States House Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion, is reportedly planning to assume leadership of the entire committee once Patrick McHenry steps down. According to a report by Punchbowl News on March 17, Hill is among the contenders to chair the full financial services committee starting in January 2025, when McHenry’s term concludes. McHenry had announced in December 2023 that he would not seek re-election after serving for two decades.
Hill has been leading the digital assets subcommittee since its establishment in January 2023 and also holds the position of vice chair on the full House committee. Under his and McHenry’s guidance, the committee has held hearings on various issues related to cryptocurrencies, such as terrorism financing and money laundering.
The outcome of the House committee’s leadership will depend on whether Republican lawmakers maintain a majority in the chamber following the 2024 United States elections. The control of the House of Representatives, Senate, and the Presidency is all up for contention between Democratic and Republican lawmakers.
In an interview conducted in January 2024, Hill expressed his hope that certain cryptocurrency bills would be approved by the full committee before the year’s end. Cointelegraph reached out to Rep. Hill’s office for comment, but no response was received at the time of publication.
