Magmic, a renowned gaming company, made an exciting announcement at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. They revealed that they are working on a new mobile and browser game based on the Major League Baseball (MLB) license. The game, whose title is still a mystery, will provide players with an immersive “idle tycoon” experience where they can create their own baseball stadium. It’s worth noting that Magmic has obtained licensing from both MLB and MLB Players Association.
While specific details about the gameplay haven’t been disclosed yet, Magmic’s CEO, Mo Agha, did share some information. Players will have the opportunity to construct and expand their very own MLB ballpark, as well as engage in player trading.
Magmic has been a prominent player in the mobile gaming industry since its establishment in 2002. It gained recognition for developing popular Blackberry games, including the highly successful Texas Hold ‘Em King franchise and various other titles. Over the years, their games have been downloaded more than 250 million times, and they currently boast a player base in the millions.
The company has also created games based on well-known intellectual properties, such as a mobile version of Hasbro’s Scattergories, which is powered by ChatGPT, and a real-money rummy game on iOS featuring the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) license.
The new MLB-licensed game will cater to both Web3 and Web2 gameplay. Users will have the ability to trade digital assets, including ballplayers. However, it’s important to note that the game can be enjoyed in its entirety as a traditional Web2 experience on mobile and browser. Players will not be required to participate in monetized and asset-based Web3 features.
According to Agha’s statement in a press release, the new game aims to provide an enjoyable gaming experience for both casual and hardcore baseball fans. It will offer a unique opportunity to build and manage a baseball stadium, while also allowing players to engage with the MLB licensing and trading system.
In related news, Sequence has recently partnered with Google Cloud to simplify Web3 gaming development, which will likely have a positive impact on the industry as a whole.
