Kenya has refused a request from the US government to lift the suspension on Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency project. The country’s Interior Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, stated that the suspension would remain in place until guarantees of the safety and reliability of financial transactions are provided. Kindiki revealed that Kenya has faced pressure from the US government to revoke the suspension. The Kenyan government established a parliamentary committee to investigate Worldcoin, and a court has also suspended its activities. Worldcoin, which offers digital identification based on iris scans, gained popularity in Kenya before the suspension. The project was launched in July 2023 and aims to differentiate humans from AI through a proof-of-personhood system.
