Iceland has become a popular destination for Bitcoin miners due to its cheap hydroelectric power, making it the largest producer of both energy and Bitcoin hash rate per capita. However, the excessive energy consumption of Bitcoin mining is causing electricity shortages in the country. Jakobsdóttir aims to reallocate renewable electricity from crypto miners to power other industries and housing for Icelandic citizens. In addition, Iceland is starting to grow corn to reduce its reliance on imports. While farming in Iceland is challenging due to the presence of glaciers, disruptions in trade and farmer protests have motivated the country to prioritize food security.
