Worldcoin’s World App has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 10 million total registered users. With an average of 2 million new users per day and over 5 million per month, the project has experienced rapid growth since its launch in June 2023. Tiago Sada, the head of product for Worldcoin’s parent company, Tools for Humanity, revealed that the daily user count now exceeds the total monthly user count from January 2024.
The primary objective of Worldcoin is to establish a universal basic income by utilizing cryptocurrency. To register on the company’s “World App,” users must undergo an in-person eye scan using specialized machines known as “orbs.” Remco Bloemen, the head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, clarified that World App is not intended to be the sole solution on the Worldcoin protocol.
One particularly noteworthy case involving World App is the heartwarming story of a Kenyan user who expressed gratitude for being able to purchase a goat with the funds received through a Worldcoin airdrop. This story quickly went viral, prompting the crypto community to rally behind the user. They sent an undisclosed amount of cryptocurrency, which the user used to acquire even more goats. The user now proudly owns a total of 13 goats and counting.
The goat featured in the accompanying image has been given the name “Sam.” When asked about the reason behind this choice, the owner explained that the goat was named after Sam Altman, the co-founder of Worldcoin. Altman is also the co-founder and current CEO of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence startup. OpenAI’s ChatGPT product is widely recognized as the leading generative AI technology.
In related news, Worldcoin recently introduced stricter privacy checks and granted users the ability to unverify their World ID. These updates aim to enhance user privacy and security within the Worldcoin ecosystem.
