OpenAI has introduced an enhanced version of GPT-4 Turbo, a model that powers the conversational ChatGPT system. This upgraded version allows the AI tool to engage in more natural conversations. It is currently accessible to premium users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise plans.
Referred to as “gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09,” the latest model from OpenAI offers improvements in writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding capabilities, in addition to an updated knowledge base.
To train this latest upgrade, OpenAI utilized publicly available data up until December 2023. In comparison, the previous version could only draw from material up until April 2023. OpenAI addressed the concern that this update may exacerbate the challenge of writers sounding like AI, even though they wrote the articles themselves.
On April 7, Paul Graham, co-founder of influential startup accelerator Y Combinator, suggested that an email containing the word “delve” was likely written with the assistance of AI. Graham argued that the word was not commonly used in everyday conversation. However, many Africans, particularly Nigerians, countered this claim, stating that they frequently used the word. The ensuing conversation highlighted the fact that people from different regions use English vocabulary in diverse ways. Graham’s post also raised the concern that writers who speak English as a second language may lose their jobs if their work is deemed too similar to AI-generated content.
In addition to the GPT-4 Turbo upgrade, OpenAI recently launched new models in its API, including GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, which incorporates image understanding features.
OpenAI quietly updated the training data set for GPT-4 Turbo to ensure its relevance from December 2023. This update aimed to reduce what developers refer to as “laziness” in the model, where it fails to complete tasks as requested.
Furthermore, OpenAI has eliminated the need for users to create an account to access ChatGPT-3.5, its widely used generative AI tool. On April 1, the company announced that signing up for ChatGPT is no longer mandatory, making it easier for users to experience the potential of AI. However, users without accounts cannot save their history of previous interactions.
