On April 15, the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) made its official debut at the Blockchain Life Dubai event. The BGA describes itself as a “collaborative network of organizations, projects, and individuals dedicated to utilizing blockchain technology to address global social, environmental, and economic challenges.” It has formed partnerships with a wide range of blockchain-based organizations, including Bybit Web3, Solana Foundation, Aptos, Moledao, Harvard Blockchain Club, ICP.Hub UAE, American University of Sharjah (AUS), Coineasy, Libera, Edu3Labs, Alchemy Pay, Bu Zhi DAO, and XueDAO.
The newly established alliance will serve as an incubator for blockchain technology, as outlined on its website. It aims to facilitate networking opportunities by connecting developers with mentors, resources, and events. Abbie, a spokesperson for the Harvard Blockchain Club, stated in a press release that the BGA will play a crucial role in promoting mass adoption of blockchain through its partnership with Moledao, a blockchain social platform. Moledao described the alliance as a pathway to widespread adoption in a YouTube video published on April 14.
The concept of “blockchain for good” was recently explored by Silvia Semenzin, an Italian researcher from the GRASIA Research Group at the Institute of Knowledge Technology, Complutense University of Madrid. In a research article published on Sage Journals, Semenzin highlighted that many initiatives aiming to utilize blockchain technology for social good are driven by profit motives or lack an understanding of the economic disparities that exist among different social classes.
Operating as a non-profit organization, the Blockchain for Good Alliance aims to alleviate concerns typically associated with technology-driven initiatives. Lily Liu, President of the Solana Foundation, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating that it strengthens their commitment to leveraging blockchain for global benefit. She believes that this platform will facilitate impactful change by uniting the alliance’s partners.
