Crypto wallet provider Trust Wallet has issued an urgent warning to Apple users, advising them to disable iMessage due to a potential zero-day exploit. The company posted the alert on social media, stating that it had received credible information about a high-risk exploit targeting iMessage on the Dark Web. Trust Wallet emphasized that this exploit could allow hackers to gain control of users’ phones without the need for the user to click on any links. The firm also highlighted that high-value account holders are particularly vulnerable to this threat. Trust Wallet CEO, Eowyn Chen, shared a screenshot of the alleged exploit, which was listed for sale at a price of $2 million. However, some industry experts have expressed skepticism about the credibility of the threat, claiming that the evidence provided is insufficient. Trust Wallet’s alert has been viewed by over 1.2 million users within the first four hours of its release. The company has stated that its information comes from its security team and partners who constantly monitor for potential threats. Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. This alert follows Apple’s recent release of emergency security updates to address two iOS zero-day vulnerabilities that were exploited in attacks on iPhones. In addition, security researchers have previously identified iMessage as an attack vector for hackers in other incidents. According to cybersecurity firm Halborn, more than 280 blockchain networks are at risk of zero-day exploits, which could potentially put over $25 billion worth of crypto assets at risk. In light of these threats, the question arises whether crypto projects should engage in negotiations with hackers.
